GIMP Tutorial on how to blur the background

I enjoy attending food blog events.. and last Friday when I attended F Restaurant’s Food Tasting event, I did not brought my DSLR with me.. just my plain old point and shoot Sony camera. As expecetd the shots I took was plain.. and lacks some color.. but with the help of GIMP I created really nice photos, that of a quality of a DSLR shot..

Here’s a simple GIMP Tutorial on how to blur the background and adjust the color of your photo.

I used this image, taken from one of our Mann Hann trips:

Step 1: Select the are that will not be blured:

Step 2: Select>> Feather the image by 10

Step 3: Select>> Invert

Step 4: Filter>> Gaussian Blur by 40 (or depends on how much blur you want)

Step 5: Color>> Curve, adjust the curve:

And here is the final image:

    I have not tried GIMP yet. Almost same lng ang bluring process nya sa photoshop…

    wow I also downloaded this before because it was a free software but uninstall because I don’t know how to navigate, I need to install this again before they also change their mind that it wasn’t free anymore

    Meron ako nito dati yun portable kaso di ko naman mas sanay ako sa photoshop kaya tinanggal ko na lang.

    i love photography but i just hate photo editing… ;( tamad ako e.. hehe. that’s why i dont want to buy photoshop baka masayang lang pera i know i wont be able to utilize it fully.. i tried silkypix too to edit my raw files, tried my hand with GIMP too coz experts said it is even at par with photoshop as long as you have the patience to explore it, kaso i dont have the patience.. hehe. thanks for this post! hope to try GIMP again!! but for now im sticking to my very usuful Picasa… ;)

      I love gimp kase simpler ung design, sa photoshop parang ang daming buttons nakakahilo.. pero now Ia m more familiar with the tools, siguro susubok na din ako sa photoshop hehe
