Joining Memes Etiquette

In science meme is a different term. But in blogniverse or blogosphere, meme is a weekly activity where in bloggers participate through a blog post. A blogger host a certain meme for a certain topic (photo meme, meme for moms etc) and every week a theme is given. Participating bloggers then create a post with the meme’s theme for the week. Example is the movie meme which I occasionally join, Tuesday Couch Potato. This week’s theme is any movie where in the director won a best director award, I chose The Sound Of Music and then elaborate my post about it. There are other memes like Mommy Moments where in we post or talk about our kids and every week, the theme is also different. I haven’ encountered a meme about health but for sure, there is one out there and surely at least one of them mentioned what’s the best creatine supplement in the market.

When joining a meme, what etiquettes should we follow?

For one, when you join a meme, do what the host ask you to do. If it requires you putting the badge on your sidebar, do so. In most memes, it is a requirement to include a badge with a link to the host’s site on the post itself.

It is a must that you stay on the topic or the theme of the meme. Post something that is relevant to the topic.

Comment on the host’s entry and also try to comment to at least most of the participators if you cannot comment on all of them. Comment back to particiapnt who took time commenting on your entry (and I’m so guilty!).

Is it OK to post different memes on one single post?

My answer is no. To me it feels like sharing a single chair to every one. In a closer look, it is also a disadvantage to the blogger who make one post for different memes in terms of traffic and number of comments. In link building though, there is an advantage on it. Put yourself in the shoes of the meme host. Would you like it if your particiapant submit a link to you with other memes on it? If not, then don’t do it.

I agree with combo meme, although I’m guilty of it, but i always combine only 2 memes, and yes, I was also thinking of the traffic.and even if they really have to combined it, at least naman yung magka relate ang topic, hindi yung totally out of nowhere, parang ulam na pinag sama sama sa isang pinggan, hindi na malasahan ang sarap. lol!

Pwede pa ba humabol? he he he
Naalala ko lang kasi, sana kahit yung meme host, take time to visit yung mga participant nya, kahit late na,at least to get to know them, hindi yung traffic lang sa blog nya ang habol.Another thing, for host again, sana laging on time, take advantage of the auto-post feature, blogspot and WP have both naman.Kasi nakakawalang gana yung late na host eh.

    Thanks for sharing! Great tip.

Guilty ako dun sa last one when I first started blogging then realized sometimes lugi ako kasi I would visit the same blog for different posts/memes tapos sila one visit lang sa akin. Ngayon syempre iba na, kahit maiiski lang, as long as I adhere to the theme or topic separated na talaga sila.

hay naku, i so agree with K. kairita yun hindi nakakaintindi sa last point. before, when i could still religiously blog hop, i always come across this blog na sinasama-sama at least 5 or 6 memes in one post. IMHO, it’s a sign of disrespect. meme hosts exert time and effort to start memes and the least a player can do is give the meme and its host respect. eh kung ang gawin kaya nun host eh magcomment sa 1 participant lang at isingit na lang ang name nun “multi-poster” ano kaya mafeel nya?

Naku! Panu aku? I sometimes end up answering 2 topics of GT in 1 post… This happens whenever I miss a week and wouldn’t want to answer the current naman without sharing my thought on the previous. Sometimes di lang talaga maiwasan makamiss out ng 1 week or several weeks due to tight schedule. Bad ba un?

As a meme host, my only problem is visiting back all the participants but I try to cover-up my shortcomings by offering contests, dofollow links and featured commentators or participants. ;)

pano pala pag nag-miss ng isang week? minsan ganun ako eh, dahil sa kabusy-han o kaya walang makitang photo sa hard drive na relevant sa meme, di ako nakakapagpost.

love the topic girl! I’m new to Pinay Mommies, and have seen a lot of “memes” but haven’t join any, I can see it would take a lot of time checking memes though i now it would be fun. Hope I could join one that would suit my preference… Tnx for the info!
