Banners, Badge And Buttons

As a novice blogger, you will often find bloggers displaying their badge or their button. It is a 125 by 125 image that displays the name of their blog with a link to their blog. Readers or bloggers that are interested grab this button/ badge and display it on their site. Badge is a very nice way to advertise your site specially if you can find bloggers who are open for badge exchange or button exchange.

Banners, Badge and Button. All three are used for advertisement, but is there a difference on the three? Like size or the place where it should be?

I remember a conversation with a friend and she told me that a banner is something similar to a large image that is usually put on the header. If that is the case, then our 728 x 90 which s often called leader-board is a banner. But when I look for the meaning of it, I found that the size of a banner is actually 486×60 and half banner is 234 x 60. OK I am confused really. I saw some sites that describes button as something that is small (80×15) while the badge is the 125x 125 image.

So what’s the difference? Really does it matter? As long as it gives a site a proper link back and some traffic, that’s all that matters.
